Low Carb Diets

By on December 5, 2014

Low carb diets don’t cut out carbohydrates completely. Instead they teach you how to eat the right kind of foods for a healthy lifestyle. The problem with most diets is people still consume too much sugar. Contrary to popular belief low fat foods are not good for you. Low fat foods often contain a lot of sugar and not enough fiber.

How do you correct this? Take a long hard look at what you are eating every day. Let’s start with foods which contain lots of sugar. Soda, juice and sugar-sweetened drinks like iced tea are not your friends. Just one can of soda is bad for you. It contains 30 grams of sugar in the form of high fructose corn syrup. Fruit juice is not healthy either. It’s just a more pure form of sugar that will convert to fat when it isn’t burned off. The best kinds of flavored drinks are ones that are sweetened with Stevia or erythritol. Make your own sweet tea using one of these natural sweeteners and save yourself lots of money in the meantime.

What other products contain lots of sugar? Salad dressings, sauces and condiments are loaded with high fructose corn syrup. They are also high in fat, so you turn a reasonably healthy meal into an unhealthy one by adding these ingredients. Make your own salad dressing from olive oil, vinegar and mixed herbs. Always use sauces sparingly, most of them are made with flour and are loaded with carbs and sugar. Again make your own or find ones that are all natural and contain no sugar. http://weightloss.about.com/

Other foods to be extremely wary of are: jelly, premixed alcoholic drinks, yoghurt, ice-cream, pastries, breakfast cereals, meal replacement bars, cakes and most breads.

Low carb diets are a combination of whole foods like lean meats, fresh vegetables (not the starchy kind like potato, peas and corn) whole grains, nuts, legumes and low sugar fruits like watermelon and apple. The trick is to switch high carbohydrate foods for low carbohydrate foods. When you do this you will reap the rewards of higher energy levels, lower body fat and lean muscle mass.
