Energy Bars

By on December 5, 2014

When you’re on the run an energy bar can get through the day. Did you know that most of the energy bars on market are full of sugar? Much of that sugar comes from high fructose corn syrup which is not good for your health. Finding a healthy energy bar can be a bit of a challenge.
What should you be on the lookout for? Energy bars which contain lots of sugar need to be avoided. You also want to ditch energy bars that look like they’ve been created in a lab versus the kitchen.

This means staying away from artificial sweeteners which are chemical based. Instead you need a bar that users natural sweeteners such as organic Stevia. Look at the calorie content. If that energy bar is to be a snack, don’t consume more than 200 calories. If it is going to be a meal replacement than twice that amount of calories is quite acceptable.

Energy bars should also be free of saturated and trans fats. One that is made with olive oil or sunflower oil is a far better choice. The levels of carbohydrate and fiber also matter. Hi carbohydrate and fiber levels usually indicate low quality ingredients. These may include things like soy flour, enriched white flour or rice flour as the main ingredient. Energy bars that contain high levels of carbohydrate will boost blood sugar levels and make you feel tired once your blood sugar drops back to normal levels.

So what’s the alternative? Choose an energy bar that has at least 20 grams of protein. Make sure that protein listed on the label is not from soy or rice protein. It is far better to have a protein source such as whey or casein. Lastly, choose an energy bar that is free from artificial hormones such as rBGH and rBST. Where can you find such a bar? With a company called BioTrust. Here you will find a protein bar that is made from the highest quality ingredients. You can rest assured that what is written on the label is true to the ingredients in the product. Give them a try today.
